Information
In collaboration with the West Island Men’s Shed, the Alzheimer’s Society of Montreal held a presentation on the subject of dementia. Below is a description of what was covered.
We’ve all misplaced keys, blanked on someone’s name, forgotten a phone number or can’t remember why we came into the kitchen. Memory lapses can be frustrating, but most of the time they aren’t cause for concern. Some degree of memory loss, as well as a modest decline in other thinking skills, is a fairly common part of aging. However, there is a difference between typical memory changes and memory loss associated with Alzheimer's disease.
During this presentation we learned to distinguish the difference between normal aging and the possible signs of dementia. Useful suggestions for maintaining a healthy brain was discussed. An overview of resources and services available on the island of Montreal was also included. It was a great presentation. The speaker was definitely well informed, often funny and definitely to the point when it came to discussing normal memory loss, the differences between Alzheimer's and dementia and the challenges encountered when dealing with Alzheimers.
Thank you to the Alzheimer's Society of Montreal.
